Portions of the programming for this application were created in FORTRAN and translated into C by the "MacF2C" translator, a freeware version by Igor Mikolic-Torreira of the UNIX F2C translator developed by Bell Laboratories.
Though I wrote the sections of the program that compute the data for the matrices and the strings that inform the user of his/her choices, the lion's share of the credit for v 3.0 and any subsequent version goes to someone else: This stand-alone version could not have been created without the help of my younger son, Charles Melby-Thompson, who at age 15 (as of November, 1998) is an accomplished programmer. Previous versions of Matrix maker have required the use of a word-processing application that is integrated into the application using AppleScript. Matrix maker 3.0 was the first version that did not require the user to possess one of the "standard" word-processors such as Microsoft Word 6.x or WordPerfect 3.5.x. Version 3.0.1 was a minor bug fix that differs very little from v 3.0. Version 3.0.2 is a correction of the e-mail addresses of the authors. There is absolutely no difference between the operation of v 3.0.1 and v 3.0.2.
